After several deep breaths, some of them deeper than a year, we are preparing ourselves for all kinds of things again. A new layout for this webpage might emerge. Some live dates might get announced. An album might get released. No one felt like updating this news section last year but this year will be different. This year we will be stepping up and coming out and letting it rip and cutting it loose and making some noise, possibly waves too. Or at least attempting to. These past several years have been very trying ones, but right now optimisms seems to gingerly raise its’ head. It’s next to impossible not to release a new album on 2012 since it finally seems to move on to a mixing stage during this winter. We’ve cautiously written some new material, played a few gigs and rehearsed sparingly. Tomi Joutsen has been, and will continue to be very busy with Amorphis, as always, so while he’s away the rest of us get together, lose all perspective of how to write a simple song and piece together outrageously ambitious lenghty musical passages that leave little space for reasonable vocal parts instead. This is Step One of our traditional method of writing. Step Two is when the vocalist steps in and almost everything gets discarded and/ or altered drastically. Step Three is a finished song that often bears only vague semblance to the original piece from Step One.

Oh yes. Sinisthra will play at Dante's Highlight Helsinki on Saturday 2.1.2010. This, as usually is the case with our live dates in general, is one of those most unexpected happenstances that somehow just, well, happen. This probably won't be our only gig next year but it's still advised to be present if you for some reason long to see us live since we definitely will not start playing in Helsinki every other month.

Frustratingly the forthcoming Sinisthra album still remains uncompleted and we've been forced to put it on hold for the time being. A few months ago we decided to re-record the vocal tracks for the album but have been unable to find time to do this and, due to various other commitments, at the moment are probably forced to wait at least until the end of 2009 before we can pick up where we left off. It's been and continues to be very nerve-wrecking but can't be helped. No album should take years to complete and before we started recording this one we swore we wouldn't let the process drag on endlessly. This goes to prove how easy it is to make decisions and how hard to actually fulfill them.

Time for the annual news-update. Sinisthra will, most unexpectedly and perhaps even slightly shockingly, be playing a live show on 15.5. at Bar Lojo in our hometown Lohja. This is very likely our only show this year, or at least the only show before the next album is released. We've been casually working on the album since last July and are now approaching the point where we give it to an outside individual for mixing. So there's a possibility that we might actually release new music this year.
